Guillem Balague says Manchester United are in talks with Jose Mourinho, ex-Chelsea boss wants job

The Portuguese was sacked by Chelsea earlier this season after a disastrous title defence.

The future of Louis van Gaal has been doing the rounds in recent weeks. He has struggled to get the best out of this current Manchester United team, whose boring style of play has seen them slip down the Premier League table and out of the Champions League at the Group Stage.

Despite some recent improvements many still expect United to move on from the Dutchman this summer - especially with Pep Guardiola taking over at cross-city rivals Manchester City.

So who would be perfect for the job? Jose Mourinho of course. Sacked by Chelsea earlier this season after an odd and rare campaign for the 'Special One' he is being touted as the successor at Old Trafford.

Now Spanish football expert Guillem Balague has some exciting news for Manchester United fans on this potential managerial appointment on Twitter:

He seems to suggest that United are already in talks with Mourinho to take over from van Gaal in the summer and go toe-to-toe with Guardiola in Manchester.

Former United boss Sir Alex Ferguson is a big fan, and Mourinho would certainly have his blessing, and the idea of a Mourinho-Guardiola rivalry renewal as there was in Spain at Real Madrid and Barcelona is tantalising.
