One of the strangest moves of the January transfer window was seeing Steven Fletcher leave Sunderland to join Marseille on loan.
It was expected that the Scottish striker would leave the Stadium of Light, but Marseille were never touted as a potential destination.
However, they came in late in the window, sealing a deal to take him to Ligue 1 on deadline day. Fletcher moved to L’OM on loan until the end of the season, when his contract with the Black Cats expires, and he will leave Wearside permanently.
A more surprising signing by Marseille was the return of Florian Thauvin, who also signed for the Ligue 1 club on loan until the end of the campaign.
The French winger only left Marseille over the summer to join Newcastle, but his time on Tyneside was not a success.
He never appeared to settle at St James’ Park, with the 23-year-old managing just three starts in the Premier League.
He returned to Marseille and made his second debut for the club at the weekend, coming on as a substitute and being sent off for a straight red card just 10 minutes later.
With both Newcastle and Sunderland loanees now at Marseille, the French club posted up a video to their official Vine account showing the duo to combine to score in a training session.
Considering their struggles in England, Marseille fans will be hoping to see Fletcher and Thauvin replicate their feats from training in competitive matches.
