Wahbi Khazri says Sunderland's predicament didn't deter him from joining

Despite being in relegation trouble, the £9 million signing from Bordeaux was attracted to Sunderland.

Sunderland's January signing Wahbi Khazri has said the club's current predicament of being in the midst of a relegation dogfight did not deter him from linking up with the Black Cats.

The midfielder made his debut during the 1-0 defeat to Manchester City at the Stadium of Light, and the club remain four points adrift from safety with 14 Premier League games to go. Sunderland face two tough games coming up against Liverpool and then Manchester United.

Khazri is quoted by the Sunderland Echo, saying: “This is the league that I’ve been wanting to play in, with the biggest teams and players.

“When you get the chance to join a great club like Sunderland, I was eager to come.

“The situation in the league was not a problem for me.

“Obviously, it’s very serious. But if we can get a couple of victories, then it’s completely possible that we can avoid relegation."

The defeat to Manchester City provided some positives, while the initial reaction to Sunderland's new signings seems to have been positive, as the fresh blood and impetus seems to have injected some positivity and belief ahead of the remaining games.

One thing that will please Sunderland is that they are still an attractive proposition for some players despite their struggles this season, and the players that have arrived are at least going to be up for the fight.
