Should Liverpool make a move for free agent Leandro Damiao?

After a reported interest in 2013, should Liverpool make a move for Leandro Damiao now he is a free agent?

Liverpool refused to pay over their valuation of Shakhtar Donetsk striker Alex Teixeira in the transfer window, with SkySports reporting they had a £24 million bid rejected.

They ended up failing to add a striker, but they can still do so, and bring in a high profile Brazilian for free.

Leandro Damiao is a free agent after his contract with Cruzeiro came to an end, and is after a move to Europe.

Sambafoot confirmed his free agent status last month, explaining that Sporting Lisbon have offered him a deal which he is weighing up, with Real Betis emerging as another option.

Damiao is still just 26, and a few years ago was rated as the best striker in Brazilian football, scoring 41 goals in 53 games in 2011.

His top scoring performance at the London Olympic games was a career highlight, but he has failed to kick on, with injuries and a loss of form a factor.

He still netted 17 goals in 44 games for Cruzeiro last season, showing he still has an eye for goal, and just as Chelsea have given Alexandre Pato a chance, Liverpool could do worse than offer Damiao a shot until the end of the season.

At the end of the campaign when Mario Balotelli returns from loan and Danny Ings comes back from injury they can then make a decision on his future, but as a short-term option, Damiao may be worth a punt.

The Mirror reported in 2013 that Damiao was lined up as a potential transfer target for the Reds, as a potential replacement for Luis Suarez, but that summer they convinced the Uruguayan to stay put.

Here is a look at him in action last season...
