Tottenham have now established themselves as Premier League title contenders.
Parlour said: “You know who’s really impressed me this year for Spurs, [Mousa] Dembele. I think he has really looked at it and thought: ‘there’s competition for midfield places and I’ve got to step my game up here’. He’s certainly played really well this season.”
Spurs currently sit third place in the Premier League table - one place ahead of Arsenal - and they look in good health heading into the final months of the season.
Mauricio Pochettino’s team have set themselves up well to realistically challenge for the title, with every player in the squad having a positive impact.
There are the big name players who have been stealing all the headlines, with the likes of Harry Kane and Dele Alli excelling in the final third, and the defensive partnership of Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen winning a wealth of plaudits.
However, the lesser heralded players are just as important, and Parlour has lauded the impact of Mousa Dembele, who has been great this season.
With many doubting his long-term future at White Hart Lane before the start of the season, he has proven himself time and time again this year, earning a new long-term contract in the process.
The Belgian midfielder has performed far better than many expected this term, and Parlour is correct to highlight his impact in Tottenham’s exceptional performances throughout the season.
