The Leeds boss is shocked that Kike has headed to Eibar.

Leeds United boss Steve Evans has been talking to the press today ahead of this weekend's fixture with Nottingham Forest.

The Scot however did find himself talking about transfers once again.

Leeds were openly chasing strikers in the January transfer window but failed in their bids for several options up top.

One name that popped up was Kike. The Middlesbrough forward looked likely to depart Boro after Jordan Rhodes' arrival at The Riverside Stadium. Leeds missed out on Kike however, who ended up moving to Eibar after the transfer window closed - which means he cannot play until the end of the season.

Speaking to the press today, as reported by the Yorkshire Evening Post, he stated:

"The January window is an inflated market...

"One of the ones we liked has gone to Spain but can't play, a bizarre situation...

"We'd have liked to have strengthened further...but we don't want to put the club at risk."

The club also went after Sam Winnall of Barnsley - in a bid that caused some rather public airing of dirty laundry.

Speaking about that today Evans made it clear that he felt the striker would be very keen on a move to Elland Road - although the club will not be meeting Barnsley's valuation of the 16-goal striker:

"I think he would have got on his bike and bent backwards to come to Elland Road, but it didn't get that far.

The emergency loan window opens on Tuesday and it will be interesting to see if Leeds go back in for any strikers, with Kyle Lafferty the name on many lips.
