Joel Robles started for Everton as they took on Newcastle.

Everton secured a 3-0 win over a lacklustre Newcastle United side on Wednesday evening.

The Magpies came into the game with a number of their January signings starting, but their existing defensive issues continued, with Aaron Lennon netting the opening goals after 23 minutes.

He had far too much time to receive the ball and turn, placing a shot along the ground past the unbalanced Rob Elliot in goal.

Ross Barkley netted both other goals from the penalty spot late in the game, and the Toffees secure they first three points of 2016 with the win.

The starting XI that Roberto Martinez selected was fairly consistent with the Spaniard’s previous team sheets, but there was one major change.

Due to an injury to Tim Howard, Joel Robles finally got a chance in the Premier League after impressing in cup action.

Fans have been calling for Robles to start for a number of months, with Howard’s form exceptionally poor, and he did not disappoint.

Although the 25-year-old had little to do, with Everton dominating the game, he completed five saves and claimed two crosses, and just looked assured whenever the ball came near him.

Following the game, Everton fans took to Twitter to react to the performance of Robles, with many now claiming he deserves a chance to enjoy an extended run of playing time in the Premier League.
