The former Germany international had previously believed that Arsenal would top the table this season when asked earlier in the campaign.
However, with the recent announcement that Pep Guardiola is set to replace Manuel Pellegrini at the Etihad next season, Hamann says he believes the City squad will do their utmost to ensure the Chilean will leave on a wave of trophies and success.
“I’ve always said this season that Arsenal is my tip to win the league, but I’ve changed my mind now” he told Talksport.
“I think City will win the title and I think they could win it by five or six points. The City players will try their utmost now to make sure they give Pellegrini the perfect send-off.”
“I also think they’re a runner in the Champions League. If they hadn’t announced Pellegrini’s exit I’m not sure they would be, but after the news I think they’re vey much in the running.”
At present, City and Arsenal would be the top two candidates for the Premier League title this season.
They certainly have the best squads with the most expensive stars, with the likes of Sergio Aguero, Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez all sure to be key players in the title race.
However, at some point Leicester City will have to be considered serious contenders, with them continuing to impress and currently three points clear at the top of the table.
There are plenty of twists and turns yet to happen though, with it looking likely to be one of the tightest races for the title and the top four in many seasons
