Report: Victor Wanyama delaying contract decision because he's hoping to join Tottenham

Southampton midfielder Victor Wanyama is reportedly hoping to sign for Tottenham in the summer.

According to the Daily Mirror, Southampton midfielder Victor Wanyama is stalling on a new five-year deal - because he still hopes to join Tottenham.

Wanyama, 24, has been a mainstay of the Southampton side ever since signing from Celtic back in the summer of 2013, and has earned praise for his powerful, dominant displays in the middle of the park under Mauricio Pochettino and now Ronald Koeman.

The Kenyan international has watched former Saints team-mates Nathaniel Clyne, Calum Chambers, Dejan Lovren, Toby Alderweireld, Luke Shaw, Morgan Schneiderlin, Adam Lallana and Rickie Lambert all earn big moves to Premier League rivals, and now he appears to have had his head turned by rival interest too.

The Daily Mail reported back in August that Tottenham - managed by his ex-Saints boss Pochettino - had seen a bid rejected for Wanyama, with Southampton refusing to sell another key player.

January passed without a renewed bid from Tottenham, and the Daily Mirror report that Southampton have offered a new five-year deal to Wanyama in a desperate bid to keep him on the South Coast.

However, it's stated that Wanyama is currently stalling on that deal, because he still hopes to join Tottenham at the end of the season and finally reunite with Pochettino at White Hart Lane, whilst it's also suggested that Arsenal are interested too.

Unfortunately for him, it seems unlikely that Pochettino would make another move. He now has Eric Dier, Mousa Dembele, Dele Alli, Ryan Mason, Nabil Bentaleb and Tom Carroll in midfield, and it's unclear where Wanyama would fit in unless Dier reverted to playing at centre back - and given his impressive performances, he deserves to stay in midfield, rather than have Pochettino may big money for Wanyama this summer.

Should Tottenham make another move for Wanyama?
