Newcastle fans react to Florian Thauvin's red card nightmare on Marseille debut

Florian Thauvin was sent off ten minutes into his second Marseille debut on Tuesday night.

Newcastle playmaker Florian Thauvin left the club to re-join Marseille on Monday - but he endured a nightmare return to life in France.

Thauvin, 22, only signed for Newcastle in the summer, but barely featured under Steve McClaren, and was subsequently handed a loan return to Marseille until the end of the season.

The Frenchman's return to the Stade Velodrome was seen as a way for him to play some first-team football, and get his confidence back in Ligue 1.

Thauvin was subsequently brought on as a substitute for his second Marseille debut on Tuesday night - but stunningly lasted just ten minutes, as he was given a straight red card for a late challenge.

It all just seemed to sum up Thauvin's season so far; so much excitement and hope, but ultimately a nightmare - and Newcastle fans took to Twitter to react after hearing about and seeing Thauvin's red card.

Many fans felt sorry for Thauvin, and know that this is the darkest point of his career so far, as he desperately attempts to rekindle his form away from St. James' Park.

Others felt that Thauvin's red card was harsh anyway, with some finding it hilarious that the midfielder endured such a disastrous return to Marseille...

Here are some of the reactions after Thauvin was sent off after just ten minutes of his second debut for Marseille...
