James Tomkins claims West Ham United are as good as Leicester City

West Ham United are currently 11 points behind Leicester City in the Premier League standings.

James Tomkins has told the London Evening Standard that Leicester City’s players are no better than his West Ham United teammates.

Leicester are currently three points clear at the top of the Premier League table, after making remarkable progress under Claudio Ranieri’s stewardship.

However, Tomkins doesn’t feel that the Foxes are any better than West Ham, and he has urged the players at Upton Park to take inspiration from Leicester’s rise.

“We want to finish as high as we can," the defender said. "I said ‘top ten’ earlier in the season but realistically we’re looking higher.

“Europe is a realistic option. You look at Leicester and see what they’re doing and we know we have as good players as they have.”

West Ham are currently competing for a top-four place themselves, after impressing over the season so far.

The Hammers have picked up some notable scalps, and they currently sit just six points behind fourth placed Arsenal.

Slaven Bilic’s side won their last match against Aston Villa 2-0, to keep the pressure on the rest of the Champions League chasing pack.

The Hammers’ next match comes away against an in form Southampton side, meaning that their credentials to claim a European spot are set to be put to the test.
