Gary Rowett has suggested that he would consider putting pressure on the Birmingham City board to sign Jon Toral if they found out that the playmaker was available for £2.5m, the Birmingham Mail reports.
The Spaniard is currently on loan with the Championship side from Arsenal. And he has clearly done enough to impress Rowett, as the Blues boss suggested that he would be willing to part with a substantial fee to make his deal permanent if he felt that the Gunners were open to doing a deal.
"If Jon Toral became available and there was a £2.5m fee on him I think I would be trying to push the club to see if we could do that one," Rowett explained to the Mail.
While £2.5m may not be a large amount for some sides in the division - with Jordan Rhodes moving from Blackburn to Middlesbrough for an initial £9m (via BBC Sport) - in Birmingham's case, that price certainly highlights how highly Rowett rates Toral.
The Mail reports that Birmingham's £1.5m purchase of Diego Fabbrini in January was the club's biggest buy since 2011, so being willing to spend £1m more on Toral shows how valuable he is to the team.
His six strikes makes him the club's leading goalscorer in the league, while his ability to create chances for his teammates has also helped the Blues immensely as they look to surprise everyone by remaining in the play-off race right until the end of the season.
