Could the Manchester United midfielder be on the same path as the Tottenham Hotspur wonder-kid?
The youngster started his career at Crewe before completing a move to Old Trafford in 2012, but despite arriving with a reputation as one of the brightest English prospects in the game Powell has struggled with injuries and has failed to make a significant impact at United thus far.
Powell did score on his debut for United, in a league clash with Wigan Athletic, but since then he has featured just eight more times for the club, including twice this season.
A loan move to Hull City could be the boost he needs and Davis for one feels Powell has the ability to be just as good as Tottenham Hotspur’s Dele Alli.
The former MK Dons midfielder has wasted little time making an impact at Spurs and is now a shoo-in for England’s Euro 2016 squad. But Powell could one day be playing alongside Alli at international level if Davis is proved right.
“I would put him in the same bracket as Dele Alli,” Davis told ITV. “I know he hasn’t shown that yet because of the problems he has had with injuries, but if he gets the chance to showcase his talent then there is no reason why he cannot be as good as that.”
Powell scored 16 goals for Crewe as a teenager and while Tottenham fans may scoff at the comparison, those who have been watching the United player over the years know he has what it takes to match Alli in time.
