Alan Shearer believes Newcastle are in big trouble after tonight's 3-0 defeat at Everton.
Newcastle legend Alan Shearer has taken to Twitter to state that the Magpies were 'awful' in their defeat at Everton this evening.
Steve McClaren's men travelled to Merseyside with three January signings in the line up, as Henri Saivet, Jonjo Shelvey and Andros Townsend all started the match, whilst deadline day signing Seydou Doumbia was named on the bench after joining from Roma.
Fans had a sense of excitement as they travelled to face Everton who had won just one game in the last ten Premier League matches - ironically against Newcastle on Boxing Day - before facing the Magpies again tonight.
However, under-pressure Everton boss Roberto Martinez received a welcome boost as his side ran out 3-0 winners at Goodison Park, with Aaron Lennon and two late Ross Barkley penalties giving the Toffees all three points.
With Jamaal Lascelles sent off for the second penalty, it was another torrid night for Newcastle, who remain two points adrift of safety tonight.
After the final whistle, Magpies legend Alan Shearer took to Twitter to give his verdict on the performance, calling it 'awful' as he believed the club are in trouble at the bottom of the table.
Shearer singled out goalkeeper Rob Elliot as Newcastle's man of the match, as has been the case on many occasions already this season.
