Ayoze Perez agreed a long-term contract to remain at Newcastle.
The Spanish striker, 22, has signed a contract which will keep him at St James’ Park until 2021, removing any doubts that he will be leaving in the near future.
Perez arrived at Newcastle in the summer of 2014, linking up with the Tyneside club as something of an unknown quantity.
He was a second division player in his homeland, but quickly endeared himself to the Newcastle faithful with some top class performances.
He has managed 12 goals in 63 appearances for the Magpies, netting five times this season, and impressing with his all round attacking play.
A technical attacker, Perez’s performances for Newcastle saw him called up for the Spanish Under-21 squad, and he looks to be getting better and better with each passing week.
Speaking after the confirmation of his new long-term deal, Perez said: “It’s a special day for me, a big day for me. The truth is I'm really happy here, so it's a good thing for me - and I hope it's the same for the Geordie family.”
When the news was confirmed, Newcastle fans took to Twitter to express their delight at tying Perez down to a long-term contract.
Strengthened in key areas, and not lost anyone. Plus Ayoze Perez getting a new contract is the signing of the window. #NUFC— Joe (@MisterJoeLee) February 1, 2016
Massive cliche but new contract for Perez could be as good a bit of business as any other deal for another a striker today #nufc— Toon Stew (@toonarmyblog) February 1, 2016
Pleased with the new contract for Perez today. Let's hope it's to build for future and not just to get more money for him in summer. #nufc— Ian Gordon (@iangordon32) February 1, 2016
