Michael Owen has commended Newcastle United and Stoke City’s ambition in the transfer window on Twitter.
Newcastle spent more money than any other Premier League club in January, while Stoke smashed their transfer record to sign Giannelli Imbula from Porto on deadline day.
And Owen was impressed with the business that both clubs managed to complete, suggesting that they have had very productive transfer windows.
Loving Stoke's ambition. Big money signings becoming the norm. Club on the up.— michael owen (@themichaelowen) February 1, 2016
Newcastle likewise. And both in for Berahino with club record bids. Doesn't look like it will happen this window though.— michael owen (@themichaelowen) February 1, 2016
Newcastle were forced to spend in January, due to their terrible start to the season.
The Magpies are currently in the relegation zone, but their squad looks much stronger for the additions that they have made in January.
Newcastle have brought in Henri Saivet, Jonjo Shelvey, Seydou Doumbia and Andros Townsend, adding some much needed attacking class to their team.
Stoke, meanwhile, have made vast strides since Mark Hughes took charge and Imbula’s arrival is a further indication of the progression they are making as a club.
