Eric Dier has told the Hampstead and Highgate newspaper that every time he plays for Tottenham Hotspur he is trying to repay Mauricio Pochettino’s faith in him.
Pochettino has built a reputation for trusting young players throughout his time in England so far, and Dier has benefitted hugely from his manager’s faith in youth.
The 22-year-old has played a prominent role for Spurs ever since moving to White Hart Lane from Sporting Lisbon in 2014.
And Dier admits that he is indebted to Pochettino, for giving him his chance at Tottenham.
“Hopefully every time I play I do as well as I can, to try to repay the manager’s faith in me,” Dier said.
“I never complain about playing, I’m happy to be playing as regularly as I am. I feel extremely fit, I feel great, so there’s no problem.”
Dier started life at Tottenham in defence, and he generally impressed with his performances in his first season.
However, a switch into defensive midfield at the start of this campaign, has been a masterstroke from Pochettino.
Dier has been a revelation throughout the season so far, with his disciplined performances belying his tender years.
Dier has now earned a full England cap for his good form, and he has helped Tottenham climb into the top four in the Premier League.
