West Ham United co-chairman David Gold has taken to Twitter to reveal that full back Sam Byram is injured, and won't start against Aston Villa tonight.
The game comes less than 24 hours after the closure of the winter transfer window, where West Ham snapped up two new signings to improve their squad.
Striker Emmanuel Emenike arrived on loan from Fenerbahce until the end of the season on Sunday, but hasn't been given international clearance to play against Aston Villa.
The other January signing was full back Sam Byram, who arrived from Leeds United, and made his Premier League debut as a substitute against Manchester City over a week ago.
With Carl Jenkinson out for the rest of the season, Byram is now expected to be West Ham's first choice right back going forward, but he won't be playing against Aston Villa.
West Ham co-chairman David Gold was asked whether Byram will be starting the match tonight, but says that Byram has picked up a small injury and will be ruled out, giving manager Slaven Bilic something of a blow in defence.
Byram will be hoping to recover and be fully fit for the weekend trip to Southampton, as he embarks on his Premier League career following his move from Leeds.
