Tottenham scout David Pleat says new Newcastle Untied winger Andros Townsend can be 'electric'.
Tottenham Hotspur scout and former boss David Pleat has given a thumbs up in Newcastle United's direction.
Pleat gave particular mention to Andros Townsend, sold from Tottenham to Newcastle United earlier in the transfer window.
He told BBC Radio 5 Live, reported on the BBC's live transfer feed at 10.50pm:
"I think the business Newcastle have done will ensure they retain their status. Andros Townsend can be electric on his day."
The difficulty for Tottenham was Townsend did not have those 'electric' days often enough, and under Mauricio Pochettino he was not really given the opportunity to.
Townsend could make his debut on Wednesday night for Newcastle against Everton, when he will come up against another ex-Spurs old boy in Aaron Lennon.
Pleat is not jut a scout at Spurs, he is one of five members of the transfer committee at the club, which also features head coach Mauricio Pochettino, and chairman Daniel Levy.
Townsend now has a point to prove, and so does manager Steve McClaren, who has been backed hugely in the transfer market, and will face a certain sack if he is relegated.
