Tottenham Hotspur had been linked with the Coventry City midfielder.
According to a report from the London Evening Standard, Tottenham Hotspur have cooled their interest in Coventry City midfielder James Maddison after the Sky Blues put a £7million price-tag on his head.
The 19-year-old is said to be the latest young talent attracting admiring glances from White Hart Lane, but those Spurs fans hoping they would see a deal similar to the one that secured Dele Alli this time last year may be disappointed.
Maddison has played just 30 times for Coventry to date, scoring four goals and providing five assists in the process, but despite his limited experience he is regarded as one of the most exciting teenage talents in the Football League.
Coventry are more aware of that than most and the Standard claims they would not be willing to sell Maddison for less than £7million.
That is £2million more than Tottenham paid for Alli but his emergence has quickly ensured that was an absolute bargain.
However, with Maddison not believed to be anywhere near the former MK Dons player in terms of development it is no surprise Tottenham are seemingly backing away…at least for now.
