Report: Marseille turned down chance to sign Yoan Gouffran on loan

Newcastle United are keen to see the winger leave St James Park, after letting Florian Thauvin sign for Marseille already.

Marseille turned down the chance to sign Newcastle United winger Yoan Gouffran on loan, reports the Daily Mail.

The French winger is far down the pecking order at St James’ Park, having only made seven appearances so far this season.

The club have been desperately trying to get him off their books, and have already offered him to multiple clubs back in France.

One of those were Marseille, who secured Magpies misfit Florian Thauvin on a loan deal until the summer on Sunday, and were offered Gouffran as part of that move.

They turned the Magpies down though, with them having no interest in signing him on loan or in a permanent deal, the Daily Mail report claims.

Steve McClaren’s side are sure to try and push ahead with their attempts to get Gouffran out the door on deadline day regardless.

Similarly, the player is sure to be keen on an exit as well, with first team football hard to come by and not likely to get easier after the arrival of Andros Townsend from Tottenham Hotspur.

Whether they can find a new club for him remains to be seen though, with his reportedly high wages sure to be a stumbling block to any potential move.
