The West Brom forward is still attracting plenty of media attention.

Phil Thompson and Jamie Redknapp have reacted to Newcastle United's reported £24 million bid for West Brom forward Saido Berahino with surprise, according to Sky Sports

Newcastle are said to have significantly upped the offer on the table for the 22-year-old.

And Thompson can't believe the Baggies aren't willing to accept such money. Redknapp, though, has highlighted why West Brom might be scared of losing him.

There are a few hours of Deadline Day left so expect more and more reports about more and more offers...

Thompson told Sky Sports News on Monday evening: "I just can’t understand why they don’t sell him. That is very good money."

And Redknapp added: "They’re scared of losing him because he’s a talented player. But this is boring - we’re talking about him for the third transfer window."

However, as of 7.06pm, Sky Sports have suggested the reports are wide of the mark.

Is Berahino destined not to join Newcastle this window? The Magpies desperately needed a new forward but have since signed Seydou Doumbia on loan, reducing the need to recruit the West Brom forward.

But, if the £24m offer is on the table, Newcastle clearly aren't taking any chances in the market and want to maximise their likelihood of bringing more goals to the Premier League.
