According to a report on the Daily Mail’s live transfer feed at 15:17 on 1 February, Sunderland are keen on Leicester City midfielder Gokhan Inler.
The Swiss international has failed to make much of an impression since moving to the King Power Stadium in the summer transfer window.
Hamburg were thought to be leading the way for the 31-year-old, but now Sunderland have allegedly entered the race.
The Black Cats have already made a number of additions in January, but Sam Allardyce is keen to continue to strengthen his squad as he looks to avoid the drop.
The Wearsiders are currently four points away from safety, and they have realised the need to increase the quality of their squad in January.
With time running out to seal deals, they are now hopeful of bringing Inler to the North East - as he could add power to their midfield.
Inler has made just three Premier League starts for Leicester since moving in the summer, and Foxes manager Claudio Ranieri is reportedly thought to be willing to sanction his departure.
