Report: Sheffield Wednesday have new deadline day priority after McGeady agreement

Sheffield Wednesday - The Owls

Sheffield Wednesday are intent on strengthening their squad further today.

According to the Sheffield Star, Sheffield Wednesday have made a new central midfielder a priority after winning the race to take Everton’s Aiden McGeady on loan until the end of the season.

The report claims that Wednesday are hopeful of making a new addition after McGeady, though a specific name hasn’t been mentioned with the club set to explore the market.

While the addition of McGeady has yet to be confirmed by either club, the Sheffield Star is confident the Owls have won the race ahead of the Blackburn Rovers and Leeds United.

The Republic of Ireland international will give the squad fresh impetus in wide areas for the remainder of the season, though their business apparently isn’t quite done there.

The Yorkshire club currently sit just outside the Championship’s top six having played a game fewer, and their activity this month suggests the owners feel promotion is a realistic goal this season.

Wednesday already boast a decent set of midfielders with Barry Bannan, Sam Hutchinson, Kieran Lee and Lewis McGugan for options, yet one more addition could make a telling difference.

The proposed player could be another loan option from the Premier League, though with the club’s heavy financial backing, an exciting permanent deal shouldn’t be ruled out.

Carlos Carvalhal will be delighted with the options now available to him at Hillsborough, yet things could look even better for his promotion-chasing side come 11pm tonight.
