Report: Newcastle United's move for Swansea City striker Bafetimbi Gomis falls through

Newcastle United had been keen to sign Bafetimbi Gomis from Swansea City.

According to the Daily Mail's live transfer feed, Newcastle United have seen a deadline day move for Swansea City striker Bafetimbi Gomis fall through.

Gomis has been tracked by Newcastle throughout the January transfer window, as Steve McClaren looks to bolster his striking options at St. James’ Park.

Newcastle’s first choice in January was West Bromwich Albion striker Saido Berahino, but after struggling to complete a deal for the 22-year-old, they turned their attentions to Gomis.

However, the Frenchman has reportedly demanded too much money to move to Tyneside, and the Magpies have pulled out of the deal.

Gomis has scored six times for Swansea this season, but his form of late has been poor.

The 30-year-old has scored just twice in his last 19 appearances, and Swansea were willing to sell the powerful forward.

However, his excessive demands have blocked a move and Gomis now seems set to remain at the Liberty Stadium until the end of the season, at the very least.
