Report: Middlesbrough bid for West Brom winger Callum McManaman fell through

West Brom - The Hawthorns

Middlesbrough had reportedly agreed a £7 million fee for Callum McManaman with West Bromwich Albion.

According to a report in the Daily Mirror’s live transfer feed at 10:38 on 1 February, Middlesbrough were set to complete a £7 million move for West Bromwich Albion’s Callum McManaman, before injury struck.

Boro are currently in the top two in the Championship, but they have been eager to increase their attacking options in January.

Middlesbrough have already completed deals for Gaston Ramirez and Kike Sola, but they also have funds to spend.

Boro have been in pursuit of Blackburn Rovers striker Jordan Rhodes for much of the month so far, and it also seems that they had an ambitious deal almost wrapped up for McManaman.

The Baggies had wanted to cash in on the 24-year-old winger, and he was all set to move to the Riverside Stadium.

However, the former Wigan Athletic man damaged ankle ligaments last weekend, and the move had to be called off.

It means that Middlesbrough have had to look elsewhere for transfer targets, with a new winger possibly set to be added before the deadline later this evening.
