According to a report on The Sun’s live transfer feed at 11:43, Mathieu Debuchy could be set for a shock move to Manchester United.
Aston Villa had been confident of landing the French full-back, after agreeing to pay a £1 million to take him on loan until the end of the season, according to the Daily Mirror.
However, Villa have now been rivalled by United and Debuchy is understandably more keen to move to Louis van Gaal’s side.
The Red Devils believe that Debuchy could provide them good cover at right-back, with Matteo Darmian likely to remain their first choice.
Debuchy is keen to leave Arsenal, as he is desperate to receive more regular action.
His reported refusal to join Villa caps off what has been a hugely frustrating transfer window for Remi Garde.
The French boss had lined up a number of targets, but every deal he has tried to complete has fallen through.
And Villa are now believed to be only interested in one low-key loan addition, with time running out for them to upgrade their squad.
As for United, they would be signing an experienced international with plenty to prove as he bids to fight his way into France's Euro 2016 squad.
