Parlour’s verdict on which club Debuchy should choose: Sunderland or Aston Villa

Debuchy

Sunderland and Aston Villa are reportedly interested in Arsenal defender Mathieu Debuchy.

Ray Parlour suggested on the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast show on talkSPORT on Friday morning (January 29) that Mathieu Debuchy should chose Sunderland over Aston Villa.

According to a report in The Guardian last week, Premier League duo Sunderland and Villa are interested in signing the France international defender on loan from Arsenal until the end of the season.

"Both in a relegation battle, obviously Sunderland have more chances of staying up than Villa," said former Arsenal star Parlour.

"Probably Sunderland would be the best choice, I am sure," added the Englishman.

Debuchy has struggled for playing time at Arsenal so far this season despite his return to fitness.

Hector Bellerin has been superb this campaign, and his performances at right-back is keeping Debuchy out of the team.

The 30-year-old right-back is a good player, but he needs to play regularly in order to make the France squad for the Euro 2016 finals.

Ideally, it would be better for the former Newcastle United star to play for a top Premier League club, but it seems that the only options he has are Villa and Sunderland.
