Mauricio Pochettino was not overly impressed by Tottenham’s squad when first hired.
Ardiles said: “All I can say right now is that he is very happy with the squad [currently]. When he arrived he was not particularly happy with all the players and all the money Tottenham had spent in the Gareth Bale situation.”
Pochettino arrived at Spurs tasked with turning around the club’s fortunes, after a few years of short-termism and major change.
Gareth Bale had been lost to Real Madrid, and in his place all the money had been spent poorly on a selection of players - many of whom have since left White Hart Lane.
It was a squad which fans believed was full of possibility, but Pochettino arrived in the summer of 2014 and, according to Ardiles, was not impressed by what he had inherited.
The head coach was not pleased with how Daniel Levy had spent all the Bale money, and he spent the whole of last season rebuilding the squad into his vision.
That task continued over the summer, and Spurs have been rewarded with the excellent work completed by Pochettino, as they push to win the Premier League title this season.
He is now content with the team, and given how well they are performing, that should not be a surprise.
