Joey Barton reacts on Twitter to Guardiola appointment, uses Leeds and Wednesday to make a point

Joey Barton

Joey Barton suggests that Manchester City are as big a club as Leeds United and Sheffield Wednesday.

Former Newcastle United midfielder Joey Barton has taken to social networking site Twitter to give his reaction to Pep Guardiola’s appointment as the Manchester City manager.

Guardiola is in charge of Bayern Munich at the moment, but the former Barcelona coach will leave the German giants at the end of the season and replace Manuel Pellegrini at City.

Former City midfielder Barton, now at Championship side Burnley, is delighted at the prospect of having Guardiola in the Premier League.

The Englishman has also suggested that City are as big a club as Leeds United and Sheffield Wednesday, highlighting the support the Citizens got when they were in the lower leagues.

Leeds and Wednesday are two of the biggest clubs of England, but both are currently in the Championship.

City are one of the top clubs in Europe and have massive resources, a key reason why they could attract someone with the pedigree of Guardiola.

The Premier League may not have the world’s best players, but the top flight of English football is certainly inundated with some of the best managers.
