Spanish football pundit Guillem Balague has shot down suggestions Manchester United playmaker Juan Mata could make a shock transfer deadline day exit.
The Daily Star reported that Mata could be set for a late switch to Barcelona, claiming United were open to sanctioning a deal.
This suggestion sounded fanciful given the late stage of the transfer window, and Balague has dismissed it entirely, commenting via Twitter.
Rubbish story of the day: the rumours about Mata. He is staying put, doesn't want to go, United don't want to sell at all— Guillem Balague (@GuillemBalague) February 1, 2016
Mata signed for United in 2014 and has shown fleeting moments of class, memorably with his volley against Liverpool last season.
He netted at the weekend in the FA Cup against Derby County, and has always expressed happiness with life at Old Trafford despite mixed results on the pitch.
A move to Barcelona would not have helped his chances of playing any more regularly, even if a return to Spain in such a high profile spot could have been positive for his international ambitions.
