HITC Sport understands that the Blackburn striker is heading back to the North East.

Middlesbrough have re-opened talks Blackburn Rovers striker Jordan Rhodes, HITC Sport understands.

The Scottish international came close to securing a move to Boro over the weekend and passed a medical, but the North East club then backed out of a deal.

Boro are desperate to bolster their attacking options and re-entered talks about Fulham striker Ross McCormack - but that deal always looked very difficult to do.

And so Boro have revisited the Rhodes deal - which is £9million plus £2million in adds on - and he and his agents have now travelled back to Middlesbrough's training HQ at Rockliffe Hall.

Some Premier League clubs, including Watford, have been linked with a late move for Rhodes, but sources close to Rovers have played this down insisting the only bid on the table is from Boro.

Boro could be in for a busy day as they have other options in midfield and defence too, so they could end up with up to three new signings on deadline day.
