Leicester City goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer said on the Matchday Live with Fletch & Sav show on BT Sport 2 on Saturday morning (January 30) that Saido Berahino would be a good signing for Newcastle United.
When asked if the West Bromwich Albion striker would be a good signing for Newcastle, the former Chelsea man said: “When we played against them (Newcastle), there wasn’t really that threat.
“You felt that okay if you can handle Mitrovic, if you can give him a bit of a battle, then you will be fine, and I think Berahino would give you that extra pace and I think he would add another dimension to Newcastle side.”
According to Sky Sports, Tottenham Hotspur, Newcastle, Chelsea and Stoke City are all interested in signing Berahino in January.
The West Brom striker is a very talented young player, but he has struggled to play well this season. In fact, the 22-year-old is not even guaranteed a place in the Baggies’ starting lineup at the moment.
However, there is no doubt that Berahino has talent, and for him to fulfil his potential, he needs to play regularly and in a team that will create chances.
Newcastle are struggling for survival in the Premier League, but head coach Steve McClaren is much more attack-minded than West Brom manager Tony Pulis.
The Magpies do play attacking football - or at least try to - and Berahino would get more chances to score goals at St. James’ Park than he gets at The Hawthorns.
