Newcastle United will wait until the summer to land a new centre-back.
According to the Chronicle, Newcastle United are willing to let their search for a central defender go on until the summer.
Newcastle have limited options at centre-back, with Chancel Mbemba, Fabricio Coloccini and Jamaal Lascelles currently competing for a place in the starting line-up.
The Magpies had reportedly wanted to strengthen in the heart of their defence in January, but their search has proved fruitless so far.
Newcastle still have a few days remaining to force through a deal for a new central defender, but manager Steve McClaren is reportedly comfortable with the current situation.
The Magpies will now wait until the end of the season, before making a move to strengthen the central part of their defence.
With McClaren having more say over over transfers at St. James’ Park, Newcastle's main target is said to be a young, English player - although his identity is as yet unknown.
Newcastle have already completed the transfers of Jonjo Shelvey, Henri Saivet and Andros Townsend in the January transfer window so far.
