According to The Sun, Newcastle United will make one final bid for West Bromwich Albion striker Saido Berahino before the January transfer deadline.
The Magpies have been chasing a new front-man throughout the transfer window, but so far their search has proved fruitless.
Although Newcastle have made eye catching additions in other areas of the pitch, their search for a new number nine has been unsuccessful so far.
Manager Steve McClaren, however, has reportedly not given up hope of signing a new striker - with Berahino at the top of his wishlist.
Berahino has not featured regularly for the Baggies this season, after his head was allegedly turned by Tottenham Hotspur’s interest in the summer, although he did net a brace in the FA Cup fourth round match against Peterborough United on Saturday.
The 22-year-old is still high up on Newcastle’s radar, however, and McClaren’s side are said to be willing to launch a bid upwards of £20 million to sign him.
Newcastle have struggled for goals all season, and the signing a clinical forward may be the difference between staying up and relegation to the Championship.
