Evans explains what he's promised Cellino about Leeds reaching the Premier League

The Leeds head coach has been discussing the Yorkshire club's top-flight aspirations.

Leeds United boss Steve Evans has promised owner Massimo Cellino he will build him a team for the Premier League on two conditions, according to BBC Radio Leeds.

Indeed, the Whites head coach wants time and confidence from Cellino.

If he gets these two ingredients, he believes the top flight is in no way out of Leeds' reach.

Evans told the BBC: "I've told the President that if he gives me time, I will build a team for the Premier League. I just need time and confidence to do it."

The Scot is asking for two things Cellino has rarely given anyone - across both his time at Leeds and in Italy.

That said, Evans' progress to date is already a big sign. It could all fall apart very fast (the confrontational pair could easily come to blows) but the Leeds head coach has clearly made an impression on the club's owner.

And, for the first time in a long time, United have shown glimpses that they could well end up a Premier League side under Evans.

Promotion this season seems too much of a stretch. With time and confidence, though, eventually...
