According to a fresh report in AS, Valencia are closing in on a deal for Newcastle United target Guilherme Siqueira though any potential deal may hinge on getting another player off their books.
The Spanish editorial claim that Siqueira is one step away from joining Valencia from Atletico Madrid, though in order to complete a deal the Mestalla club may have to ship out Lucas Orban – incidentally a player who has also been linked with Newcastle.
Siqueira, 29, boasts an incredible work ethic and would have been a great short-term option for a Newcastle side who have struggled to keep a tight defence this season.
McClaren’s men are deep in the relegation mire, and some could argue that without proper defensive reinforcements this month, they will be in a struggle to avoid the drop.
Unfortunately for the Tyneside club, their attempts to add Siqueira on loan seem to have fallen at the final hurdle as a Valencia side currently managed by Gary Neville appear to have won the race.
The La Liga side seemingly must, however, ship Orban out before adding to their left-back ranks and the 26-year-old coincidentally has attracted the attentions of Newcastle, according to the Daily Mail.
Orban, a two-capped Argentine international, has been on the peripherals of Valencia’s first-team this season and a switch to St. James’ Park would surely result in all parties involved ultimately winning.
