Back-to-back victories have eased their worries somewhat in the past two weeks, yet their lack of goals is still a big problem and one the club have looked to rectify this month.
The Welsh side have found the net only 22 times this season, with bottom club Aston Villa the only team in the Premier League who have scored fewer with an alarming 18 strikes.
As such, Swansea have identified the striking department as an area to improve and the arrival of Alberto Paloschi from Italian side Chievo represents a real coup for the club.
The former AC Milan striker is very highly-rated in Italy, having scored eight goals and adding a further two assists in 19 Serie A starts this season for Chievo – a relative minnow in the top-flight.
He will provide Swansea with more options upfront and relieve the pressure off top scorer Andre Ayew.
Writing on Twitter upon his confirmation, Swansea fans acknowledged that the 26-year-old’s arrival could prove to be a pivotal moment in their season as they bid to avoid the drop come next May.
He's not the big name number 9 we were hoping for at the start, but neither was Michu. Glad to have Paloschi at the club. #swans— Owen Williams (@owenwms) January 29, 2016
Great news that we have signed Paloschi! as long as he gets a few goals and works hard I'll be happy #Swans— Jonny (@jrodjonny) January 29, 2016
Paloschi a significant signing for #Swans not least because of the spending done by those around them in PL. Still time for more, though.— Rob Phillips (@robphillipshere) January 29, 2016
A signing at last, let's hope our new striker can get the goals we need to fire us up the league. Welcome to the #swans Alberto Paloschi.— Howard James (@howyjam) January 29, 2016
Really looking forward to seeing Paloschi play. Hopefully the striker we've needed. #Swans— Gareth (@ghstorer) January 30, 2016
