The Frenchman is returning to the Stade Velodrome.
This winter window has been positive for Newcastle United, who have snapped up Jonjo Shelvey, Henri Saivet and Andros Townsend in the window.
With the arrival of Townsend from Spurs came the reports of a potential exit from Newcastle United for Florian Thauvin.
That talk has rumbled on but according to reports in France the deal is now on the brink of completion.
La Provence is reporting that Thauvin has left Newcastle today to travel to Marseille to finalise a loan switch back to the club.
A stumbling block over the transfer has been who pays his wages, with Newcastle keen not to waste any more money on a player who has failed to impress in England.
Marseille have now agreed to pay his wages and the deal should be ratified in the coming hours or days.
Thauvin has played just 420 minutes of football for Newcastle United since joining the club in the summer in a deal reported by the Daily Mail to be worth around £12 million plus a loan deal for Remy Cabella.
Now it looks like he will be joining his fellow Newcastle French flop at the Stade Velodrome.
