Report: Sheffield Wednesday misfit Rhoys Wiggins set for shock return to Bournemouth

Sheffield Wednesday defender Rhoys Wiggins is on the verge of a move to Bournemouth.

According to the Daily Echo, Bournemouth are on the verge of re-signing Sheffield Wednesday left back Rhoys Wiggins.

Wiggins, 28, joined Wednesday from Championship rivals Charlton Athletic in the summer, and was seen as the club's answer at left back - but that's not how things have panned out.

The arrival at Watford's Daniel Pudil on loan has meant that Wiggins has made only five Championship starts this season and one additional substitute appearance, as he has failed to carve out a role under Carlos Carvalhal.

Now, with Aston Villa's Joe Bennett in at Hillsborough after the cancellation of his loan deal at Bournemouth, Wiggins is third choice at Wednesday - and looks to be replacing Bennett in a bizarre twist.

The Daily Echo report that Bournemouth are on the verge of re-signing Wiggins, after the defender had three prior spells on the South Coast during his career.

Manager Eddie Howe knows all about Wiggins having managed him during all three of his spells with the Cherries, and a reunion is on the cards before Monday's transfer deadline.

Wiggins will primarily return to the Vitality Stadium as Charlie Daniels' deputy at left back, though what his role is when Tyrone Mings returns from injury remains to be seen - and Wednesday fans are no doubt stunned that a player who has been a misfit at Hillsborough is now set for a move to the Premier League.

Should Wiggins have been given more of a chance at Wednesday?
