Sunderland have been linked with Swansea City’s Andre Ayew.

The agent of Swansea City forward Andre Ayew says he is surprised his client is still at the club amid heavy interest from Premier League rivals Sunderland, the Shields Gazette reports.

Mark McKay, Ayew’s agent, says he has great respect for Sunderland boss Sam Allardyce, and after making a decent offer to Swansea, is a little surprised the forward is still at the Liberty Stadium.

"I'm surprised Andre is still at Swansea in a way. Sam Allardyce, a manager I have great respect for, made a very good proposal but Swansea have been determined to keep him,” McKay said.

"Sam recognised that he is a player of talent and character who has continued to perform well in a struggling side.”

According to the report by Shields Gazette, Sunderland are likely to abandon their interest in Ayew after sealing a £9 million deal for Bordeaux’s attacking midfielder Wahbi Khazri.

But that doesn’t mean a potential move for the Ghana international can’t be resurrected in the summer, though much will depend on the Black Cats’ league status come next May.

Sam Allardyce’s men are currently sitting in 19th position in the Premier League table, four points adrift of Norwich City who sit just above the relegation zone on 23 points.

Ayew, 26, has been arguably Swansea’s best player this season despite only joining the club on a free transfer last summer, topping the club’s scoring charts with eight league goals.

HITC recently reported that Sunderland offered Swansea £10 million plus Fabio Borini for Ayew, yet the Swans held firm and remain reluctant to sell the player this month.
