Steve Nicol said on the ESPN FC show on BT Sport/ESPN on Wednesday evening (January 27) that he would not sign Ramires for Liverpool.
“I don’t think I would,” said the Liverpool legend when asked if he would sign Ramires for the Reds. “No. He is a good player, he is a decent player, he is not a great player.
“Liverpool have plenty of decent players, they need great players, so no I wouldn’t spend the money on him.”
Ramires recently left Chelsea for Chinese Super League side Jiangsu Suning after five-and-a-half years at Stamford Bridge.
The 28-year-old won the Premier League in 2015, the FA Cup in 2012, the Champions League in 2012 and the Europa League in 2013.
As Nicol says, Ramires is not a great player, but his Premier League experience would have been vital for Liverpool.
The former Benfica star’s stamina, work ethic, speed, energy and ability to read the game would have been assets to Jurgen Klopp’s side.
Of course, Chelsea probably would have rejected any approach from Liverpool as the Reds are their direct rivals.
Ramires scored two goals and created one chance in 12 Premier League appearances for Chelsea this season.
