Robbie Savage named on the Monday Night Club on BBC Radio 5 live on Monday evening (January 25) the player who should be held responsible if Leicester City lose the Premier League title by one goal this season.
“If they lose the league by one goal, it will be because of Mahrez’s penalties he missed,” said the former Leicester City midfielder.
“They could have been four, five, six points better off, not because (Robert) Huth hits a free kick and it hits the corner flag and laughs about it.”
Savage made the comments while defending Robert Huth’s behaviour during the Premier League game between Leicester and Stoke City last weekend.
The 31-year-old central defender tried to score from a free kick, but his attempt was way off target. The German centre-back was laughing after his epic failure with his teammates, as Leicester went on to win the game 3-0 at the King Power Stadium.
Savage suggested on the Monday Night Club on BBC Radio 5 live on Monday evening (January 25) that Huth should not be criticised for joking about his free kick.
The former Leicester midfielder’s point about Mahrez is also valid. The 24-year-old Algeria international winger has been arguably the Foxes’ best player so far this season, but he recently missed two spot kicks in succession.
Mahrez has scored 13 goals and created 39 chances in 22 Premier League appearances so far this campaign.
