Report: Potential Arsenal signing Kelechi Nwakali explains which number he wants and why

I guess this is a good reason but this current Arsenal player won't be happy!

We're not really sure what it matters, but footballers are a suspicious lot when it comes to what number they wear for their club.

We've seen the likes of Juan Pablo Sorin use the bizarre 1+2 while he was at Villarreal, and more recently, Aleksandar Mitrovic chose the number 45 because 4+5-9, the number made legendary by Mitrovic's favourite player, Alan Shearer.

And now, Kelechi Nwakali – who is looking increasingly likely to sign for Arsenal – has decided to reveal exactly which number he wants to wear at the Gunners.

According to the London Evening Standard, the Nigerian Tribune have claimed that Nwakali really wants the number 25 shirt – the same one worn by Nigerian legend Nwankwo Kanu.

Thing is though, someone already has that number...Carl Jenkinson! Sure, he's on loan at West Ham at the moment, but we're not sure he'd fancy losing his number to a 17-year-old.

But while Nwakali has a decent reason to want '25', Jenkinson revealed in an interview on Arsenal's website why he picked that number back in 2011: “It was my parents' door number so that was the reason! That was the number I wanted to have and luckily it was available.”

Who do you reckon will get number 25? We're really not sure, but we're bloomin' excited to find out.
