The Swiss international looks set to join the Swiss side today.
The former Fulham and Arsenal man is nowhere near the first-team at the club and the departure of Tim Sherwood and arrival of Remi Garde had no impact on his standing at the club.
He had not played for Villa since featuring in a 0-0 draw with West Ham back in November 2014 - meaning he has not featured for the club in over a year.
Senderos is a much maligned figure in the English game but his time at Villa, after arriving on a free transfer from Valencia last summer, has been mainly struck by injury problems.
Now it seems he is all set to return home.
Swiss paper Blick is reporting that Senderos, who will be hoping to feature at the European Championships in France this summer, is to undergo a medical at Grasshopper Club this afternoon ahead of a move back to the Swiss top-flight.
Senderos has not played in his home country since leaving Servette for Arsenal in 2003.
