The pair currently play for Atletico Madrid and AS Roma respectively.
Newcastle United have had a good transfer window so far. They snapped up Henri Saivet and Jonjo Shelvey earlier in the month and yesterday they completed the deal to sign Andros Townsend from Tottenham Hotspur.
Now it looks like they might be on the verge of snapping up a talented left-back from Atletico Madrid.
The report claims that Newcastle United are hoping to get in the Brazilian full-back until the end of the season.
The 29-year-old Brazilian first caught the eye with Granada in Spain before an impressive stint at Benfica saw him move to Atletico Madrid in 2014. However he has struggled to establish himself as first-choice left-back at the Vicente Calderon and now Newcastle look poised to swoop.
That is not all on the Newcastle front. Sky Sports also understands that the club are in talks to bring Seydou Doumbia on loan from AS Roma. He joined the Italian club in a big money deal from CSKA Moscow a year ago but has been poor in Italian football.
He would add pace and strength to Newcastle's attacking line-up as Steve McClaren's ambitious January continues.
