Newcastle are hoping to complete a deal for Lucas Orban.
Newcastle are in talks to sign Lucas Orban of Valenica, the Daily Mail reports.
The Magpies are looking to bring in another defender this month, and they have opened talks with Orban ahead of a loan switch to St James’ Park.
The 26-year-old, a twice capped Argentine international, is primarily a left-back who will bring added cover to Steve McClaren’s injury hit squad.
He had no left-back to name last weekend, and Rolando Aarons was forced to play as a left wing-back in the 2-1 defeat at Watford.
Orban is in talks to link up with the Tyneside club until the end of the season, on recommendation of McClaren’s assistant Ian Cathro, who worked with Orban at Valencia when acting as assistant to former head coach Nuno.
The former River Plate defender can also feature at centre-back, and he is looking for a move this month as he has not been playing much this season.
Orban has featured just19 times in all competitions for Valencia, starting only six La Liga games.
He would be guaranteed playing time at St James’ Park due to Newcastle’s lack of cover at left-back.
The report claims that other Premier League sides are also looking at Orban with four days left before the close of the January transfer window.
