Report: Joe Bennett could make Sheffield Wednesday debut in FA Cup tie with Shrewsbury

The defender joined the Championship side on loan from Aston Villa.

Joe Bennett is in line to make his debut for Sheffield Wednesday when the Owls face Shrewsbury Town in the fourth round of the FA Cup on Saturday, the Sheffield Star reports.

The Star reports that Wednesday boss Carlos Carvalhal is likely to rotate the squad for the clash against the League One side, and the full-back - who completed a loan move from Premier League strugglers Aston Villa earlier in the window - could well be one of those that is given their chance.

With Daniel Pudil performing so strongly at left-back for the Owls, Bennett will know that his chances of securing regular first-team football during his time with the club could well depend on how he performs if he is given his opportunity against the Shrews.

With Carvalhal proving during his time at Hillsborough that he is keen to frequently tinker with his squad to keep his players as fresh as possible, Bennett will know that his opportunity is likely to come in the near future, even if the Portuguese opts to stick with Pudil this weekend. But he will still be keen to stake his claim to be considered as the squad's first choice option on the left-hand side of the back four.

By establishing himself as a key member of Wednesday's side, and perhaps helping the team to promotion, he will certainly prove a point to his parent club that he deserved more opportunities in the side, and could have helped them in their battle to beat the drop.
