Report: Birmingham City extend winger Will Buckley's loan until the end of the season

The Sunderland man had initially been on loan with the Championship side until next month.

Birmingham City have reached an agreement with Sunderland that will see Will Buckley remain with the Championship side until the end of the season, the Birmingham Mail reports.

The 26-year-old initially joined Gary Rowett's side on a month-long deal earlier in the window (via Mail), and while he has only made two appearances for the Blues, Rowett clearly felt that he had seen enough to try and get the winger signed up for the rest of the campaign.

After a frustrating time at Sunderland - that also included a disappointing loan spell with Birmingham's Championship rivals Leeds earlier in the season - Buckley showed glimpses of what he is capable of for the Midlands side as he scored the opening goal in the emphatic 3-0 victory over Ipswich last weekend.

And Rowett will be hoping that the former Brighton man continues to impress during the remaining months of the season as it may well help the side in their bid to seal a surprise promotion to the Premier League.

The Blues sit just outside the play-off places, so will need more victories like the one they secured against the Tractor Boys if they hope to book a place in the top six.
