Report: Berahino still Newcastle's no1 target, bid within 24 hours

The West Brom forward is reportedly still attracting the attentions of the Magpies.

West Brom's Saido Berahino remains Newcastle United's number one target, according to the Shields Gazette.

Indeed, the Baggies' tough stance over the 22-year-old has reportedly not put the St James' Park outfit off, with Steve McClaren's side desperately short of goals.

And the Gazette report that a big Newcastle bid for Berahino is imminent.

A timeframe has been set of 24 hours, within which Newcastle will ready another club-record offer for the West Brom youngster.

Criticism has been aimed at the Baggies for their recent treatment of Berahino. Even their own fans would be happy to see the forward sold. He simply doesn't want to play for West Brom anymore, it seems, while boss Tony Pulis doesn't seem too keen on playing him.

Could a move to Newcastle make sense for all parties, then? It's unclear how much of a risk the Magpies would be taking on a striker who currently lacks match sharpness. But time is running out before Deadline Day.
